Looking for a Mobile App Marketing advice

Hi there,

I am Quang. I have been working on an iOS app as a side project while having a full-time job as a software engineer.

My app has been released on App Store, and I also got my first customer.
I spent most of the time designing and developing the app which most developers enjoyed. However, what I have learned so far is that is not enough to grow a product. I should have a marketing plan from day one, and spend at least 30% of my time doing it. Or having a partner who has experience with this would be the best.

At the moment, I am looking for advice on doing marketing in the hope to grow its user base. Based on what I have learned so far, for a mobile app, ASO still plays an important role. Therefore I am considering focusing on improving the app ASO. Then, I am going to try a paid promotion like Apple Search Ads too after defining the suitable keywords.

Besides, learning and getting ASO right in a short time is difficult, so I am looking for freelance. While he/she can help this first time, I can learn something too.

That is what I am thinking right now, and I am not sure that is the right plan or not. Therefore, I would like to hear your opinions if you have experience in marketing a mobile app.

Many thanks,

You can advertise directly on AppStore. Apple gives $100 credit and you can do a Basic campaign where you pay only if someone downloads. I just used up this credit - got me about 70-80 new users.

Thank you for sharing. I am going to check it out. After spending free $100, do you have a plan to continue use Apple Search Ads?
And I heard other people suggest to use Advanced instead of Basic to target keywords that we want. How do you think?

This is what works for me:

Joining and publishing info about my app on Facebook forums. My app is for stock market research and I joined those specific forums. I post with a screenshot of my app and link as a response to different questions about stock analysis. Usually results in 1-5 downloads per post. Downside, sometimes people ask for Android version which I haven’t created yet.

Advertising directly on AppStore. Basic works for me since I believe that my keywords are good.

Other methods: reddit, product hunt, Instagram and Facebook advertising were useless .

Thanks for the insight. I like the way that you found the app related group and contribute there. Working on a similar way to find the matching community for my app.
