Looking for ideas for your next project ? Spend some time on Reddit

Reddit is a great distribution channel for products, but it's also a great way to find ideas and just discover niches you're not familiar with.

Let's use the r/ RoamResearch sub as an example.

I've been hearing people raving about Roam for months now, and I want to see what's all the hype about.

In less than 10mn, analyzing the subreddit stats will give me an idea of what is Roam, what it's used for and why people like it.

To begin , let's explore the top submissions of the year. Just by reading the top posts, I discover some Roam use cases (building a second brain, Kindle book notes, etc...), but I also notice that the tool was quite instable at the beginning of the year, but it seems to have improved.

One other thing I like to do is to compare the growth of the subreddit and compare it with similar services/tools to to have an idea of its popularity. Here, it's interesting to see that r/Roam almost has as many subs as r/Evernote even though it's been around for only a year , but that the Notion subreddit has than 10 times more subscribers than both r/Roam & r/Evernote.

Next, top keywords is great for a more general overview of the topics discussed in the sub...

Finally, a glance at the top linked domains lets me know checking shime. sh, wilkins. io, nateliason. com or nesslabs. com might be a good way to learn more about Roam if I want to.
