You are correct, it is likely that the churn will happen. But I doubt that it will be 100% who churned. Furthermore, sponsorship is not only about numbers and benefits, it is about relationships too. Some people will sponsor your work just because you deserve it, and sponsorware is a good way to provide something in return for such people.

Lastly, the sponsorware approach can be extended onto other types of content, that does not need to get public. For example, private videos. I should have included that in the post. Thanks for bringing this up!

I wonder about the long-term effectiveness on this strategy. If I remember correctly Pest was released for free once Nundo hit X amount of sponsors. I love this approach but made me wonder how it could be affected by churn.
