Make a solid slide deck for your startup

Yes, you have a great startup, but people can only remember a few of them after a short presentation or pitch.
Here's how you can make a solid slide deck:

  1. Make it legible
  • Use large font
  • Use bold text
  • Use a simple font
  • Use color with good contrast from the background
  1. Make it simple
  • One idea per slide
  • One photo per slide
  • Avoid too much text
  • Avoid sentences as much as possible
  • Avoid any distractions
  • Avoid screenshots
  • Consider Hick's law
  • Less is more
  • Check the rule of thirds that photographers use
  • Avoid animations / transitions / memes / subtle humor
  1. Make it obvious
  • Understandable at a glance
  • Show the slide to a stranger and ask them to tell you what they remember

Investors invest in teams, not slides. Your slides should make your ideas more clear. Don’t let your slides distract investors from what you’re saying out loud. You want them to be impressed by you. Not your slides.

To start, make a legible and simple slide. Then make sense of it by adding the obviousness to it!
