Hi all,
I started with a new product that can be helpful for online sellers. After a month, I realized that marketing a product is the biggest problem really. In this day of age, it's easy to build a product (lots of resources and tools) but marketing seems to have barriers (especially all the competition).
What do you guys think?
Thanks.
I think most people skip validation process. They go straight to building product and later they find out it's hard to find market fit and customers. Everybody is talking about growth and marketing but very few put effort in validation and idea formation.
I can relate to this. Not sure whether it's because I love the development side?
Have you found a solution to your problem?
This has been the case for decades already.
I really enjoyed a webinar from Baremetrics and @louisswiss the other day about B2B sales/marketing. If Louis is OK with it I can share the transcript here.
One of the things that was really profound for me is Louis said (in different words):
Focusing on marketing & relationships will provide sustainable motivation because there is always something to get you up in the morning whereas focusing solely on solving a problem runs the risk of loosing motivation b/c you can get bored.
I didn't see the webinar, but based on your comment, I think the grass is always greener on the other side. For those who do sales and marketing, it's probably more interesting to look forward to an innovative tech solution to a problem that will change the game and eliminate the need to do any marketing or sales or turn sales and marketing into a job of simply taking orders from inbound phone calls due to word of mouth.
If you're just coding day in and day out, you might be starving for human interaction which to that person could come in the form of "marketing & relationships."
I think doing a repetitive job for long enough always has the risk of getting boring. One of the main benefits of owning a business is that you can dictate how your time is spent so you avoid getting bored by rotating tasks/projects.
