Monetizing B2C Web Apps via Google AdSense in 2024

Not seeing many (any?) b2c apps going the ad-supported route here these days. Curious if anyone out there has experience and had success bootstrapping to meaningful traffic and ad revenue.

Anyone with similar experience here? Would love to hear from you.

• What were your biggest challenges?
• How volatile were your earnings?
• What was revenue like at different traffic levels?

I'm in the early innings trying this with https://macrosherpa.com (pardon the shill! would love feedback). It's a quantitative investment research platform. Other research services and publications in the space charge monthly or annual subscriptions. My thinking was that going free + ads was an angle into the space where I didn't have to compete with incumbents for wallet-share.

I'm drawn to the idea that the app/tools are free to use, eliminating the financial barrier to become a user. BUT, obviously the aesthetics and UX take a huge hit. Currently wrestling with this tradeoff. I typically put a huge premium on good clean design.

Anyone out there with experience monetizing with Adsense? Let's hear it.
