About a year ago, while happily unemployed and looking for new ideas for projects, I found out that my partner–a full-time yoga teacher– was struggling to keep her work data consistent and up to date.
Independent teachers (contrary to the model of working for studios on a commission), need to track all their students, sales, payments and classes. In this case, she was doing it on an excel spreadsheet, and after inquiring some of her colleagues, I found out most of them were also using excel or even notebooks. These approaches might work until some extent, but the more classes and students they have, the more information they need to keep track of. In this case, escalating was becoming a problem. This applies not only to yoga teachers, but many other similar activities, including sport coaches, pilates, etc.
A quick search online showed me that although there were many SaaS solutions for yoga studios, there were not too many adapted for independent teachers. Enterprise solutions for studios bring many features that would not be useful in for independent teachers, and as a result, too expensive for this target.
So there it was, I found a niche, an idea, a problem to solve.
A year later, after several pauses due to starting new freelance projects and some overseas travels, I managed to land on a usable first version. During this time, my girlfriend has been the only real user, and many of the workflows and ideas came out of observing her needs and ways to use it.
Now finally the platform is open and ready for anyone to test.
Next challenge: attract users and growth. I science I do not yet know much about, but that I am excited to explore and learn from.
