It was one of those throw-away tweets. I had a silly idea, dumped it into Hypefury and forgot about it. Why is it always these tweets that get the most engagement? I could spend hours crafting a really useful thread on pricing strategies that gets 400 impressions but a "startup idea" tweet gets 1,000 impressions.
Anyway, cut to 10 am yesterday when the tweet was automatically posted. It immediately got some traction. Apparently, another indie hacker tried to do the same thing and it didn't quite work out.
I got comments like "crazy enough it might just work" and a few hours later an offer to buy the first advertising space!
So like a good indie hacker I sat down to a marathon coding session to figure out how to connect Twitter accounts, verify they are showing the right banner and automatically pay people using Stripe connect.
NOPE
I actually spent 20 minutes putting together an Airtable form and a Stripe payment link to collect advertisers and those willing to host an advert. The whole thing is an experiment and I am treating it as such. Everything can be done manually until the concept is proven.
So far we've collected 4 accounts willing to host a banner advert with almost 3,000 followers between them.
The tweet is now a #buildinpublic log of how the side project is going.
Here's the tweet ππ»
Fantastic idea, so simple, I can't wait to see how it turns out.
