New communication toolkit

Hello PMs

I am an experienced Product leader, and have been coaching/mentoring younger PMs for 3+ years now.

One of the most consistent challenges/opportunity areas that I have seen in my mentees is effective communication.

I also tried looking for courses, literature, blogs, etc. that focus on helping PMs communicate better.

Unfortunately, I could not find anything meaningful.

So I thought of creating a toolkit that will help PMs get a good start in understanding what effective communication is about.

This toolkit (link below) has 20 templates for the most common topics that PMs need to communicate about every day/week/month quarter.

Would love to hear:

  1. feedback and thoughts on the idea. What is good, what is bad, what could be better.
  2. I am pre-selling it and already have 160+ paid customers waiting for the launch. Most of these sales came through my twitter/linkedin following. What other sources can I consider/use to drive up sales?

The templates look very interesting! Could you explain more about the specific things PMs struggle with regarding effective communication? For example, do they have difficulty managing different tasks or need to improve their people skills? What do you think are the reasons behind "very few PMs invest in learning effective communication"?

      Hey. Thanks for the comment.

And also thank your for the questions. I feel I should have answered these questions in the original write up.

Things PMs struggle with while communicating:

      1. Tailoring the message to the audience
      2. Ensuring the audience really understands and absorbs the message instead of just listening/hearing it
      3. Keeping communication brief -- but sharing all relevant details
      4. Creating effective channels for audience to share feedback and questions

PMs invest less in learning communication for two reasons

      1. They don't realise how imp it is and how better they can be
      2. there are not enough structured resources to really learn communication

        Thanks for the detailed answer.

Agreed. It got me thinking though: if "they don't realize how important these skills are," maybe they are not the right target audience? Perhaps those who want to level up are the right ones?
