I've been on the hiring side of the table enough times to know how broken the process is.
You post a role, applications flood in, and suddenly you're spending hours — sometimes days — reading CVs that tell you almost nothing useful. Years of experience, a list of job titles, a few bullet points about "driving results" and "collaborating cross-functionally." You schedule screening calls to ask the basic questions that should have been answerable from the application itself. On the other side, HR keeps sending you irrelevant roles, frustrating you further. Weeks pass. The role stays open.
I kept thinking: there has to be a better way.
The insight that started everything
The fundamental problem with a CV is that it compresses a person's entire professional life into a handful of bullet points. All the context, the nuance, the actual story of why someone made certain decisions and what they learned — gone. And then we wonder why keyword-matching AI produces mediocre results. Garbage in, garbage out.
So my co-founder and I asked a simple question: what if candidates just told their story? No CV templates, no bullet points, no character limits. Just write about your professional journey the way you'd explain it to someone over coffee.
The result is a richer, more human input — and dramatically better material for AI to work with.
What we built
UnBullet (www.unbullet.com) is an AI-powered recruitment platform built around a core idea:
Candidates write a professional narrative instead of a CV. As much or as little as they want. Their journey, their decisions, their wins, their lessons. The AI reads and understands all of it.
And yes, I know, writing is boring. I am postponing updating my CV over my last role, let alone writing a whole life's story. But critically, you need to write it only once. From that point on, Unbullet automatically matches you to relevant roles as they are posted on the platform. Every day, all day, continuously. No manually scanning job boards. No tailoring applications. No submitting the same information a hundred times to a hundred different companies. You tell your story once and the right opportunities find you.
And what's in for Hiring Managers?
They get a list of matched candidates, the second they upload a role, with a clear explation why this candidate is suitable. Moreover, Hiring Managers can pre-screen candidates by talking to the AI. Instead of scheduling screening calls, you open a conversation and ask directly: "How has this person handled ambiguity?" or "What evidence is there of leadership here?" The AI has read the candidate's full story and answers intelligently. No HR middleman. No scheduling back and forth. No wasted hours on calls that could have been answered in a paragraph.
The result: a ranked shortlist of genuinely well-matched candidates, with deep understanding of each one, in hours rather than weeks.
Privacy built in from day one
One thing we felt strongly about from the start: candidates should be in control of their own visibility.
UnBullet has a fully built incognito mode. Candidates can choose to remain anonymous on the platform — their story and match scores are visible to hiring managers, but their identity is not. If a hiring manager wants to know who they're looking at, they send a reveal request. The candidate gets notified and decides whether to accept or decline. No one's identity is exposed without their explicit consent.
This matters for an obvious reason: a lot of the best candidates are currently employed. They're open to the right opportunity but would never risk their current employer finding out they're looking. UnBullet gives them a safe way to be discoverable without being exposed.
Where we are
We're post-MVP and actively testing. The core platform is working — AI matching, candidate ranking, smart filters, the pre-screening conversation interface, automatic role matching, and incognito mode are all functional. We're now looking for our first beta hiring managers to put it through its paces on real roles.
The honest challenges
The hardest part so far hasn't been building — it's been finding the right beta users. Hiring managers are busy people and asking them to try an unproven tool on a real hiring process requires genuine trust. We're working on it, one conversation at a time.
The other challenge is the two-sided nature of the platform. Candidates need to exist for hiring managers to find value, and hiring managers need to exist to give candidates a reason to write their story. Classic chicken and egg. Our current approach is to seed the candidate side through communities and social, while running a tight controlled beta on the hiring manager side.
What we're looking for
If you're a hiring manager — at any company, any industry — and you have a role open right now, we'd love to give you free access to test UnBullet on a real hire. No strings attached, brutal feedback genuinely welcome. Just visit www.unbullet.com and give it a go!
And if you've built something with a two-sided marketplace dynamic, I'd love to hear how you solved the cold start problem. It's the thing keeping me up at night right now.
We're building in public from here — I'll share honest updates on what's working, what isn't, and what we're learning as we go.
