Thanks to some much-appreciated support here on IH, great success on a few subreddits and some unexpected love on Twitter, in the first month of launch the-ux-mini-course.com has received over 1100 visitors, 60 email signups, and I've gotten over a dozen responses to the exit survey.
Maybe that's not a ton of traffic (I'm inexperienced at this marketing/sales thing)... but it's a whole lot for anything I've ever personally built and released.
I've spent zero dollars on promotion, operations, etc... and put in limited hustle.
I've got a lot of experience on the topic (UI/UX design & engineering), and it seems like there's definitely an audience for the material. I know the team that put together refactoringui.com had a lot of success creating a product in (almost) the same space. Theirs was more UI design and less UX design (though for sure the two overlap a whole lot).
The most obvious product is an info product (eBook or video course or ???).
But, now what? What's the next concrete step towards monetizing a product?
How could I incrementally build and release that content in a way that progressively delivers value?
I know better than to go off and build a huge big thing (product, service, or otherwise) without actually validating the market via paying customers, but I'm honestly not sure how to do that effectively in the case of an info product.
Do any of my fellow Indie Hackers have any experience they could speak from on this topic?
I know this was a bit wordy - that's probably a good indicator of my lack of knowledge :)
Thank you in advance!
Sound's like you're doing great work already!
Have you heard of influencer marketing?
Let's just say your course is currently focussing on students, talk to a professor and ask him to get this course in for the students for some extra credit or something!
You have to choose your prospects right for better conversion.
I think this tool will help you, check it out at http://bit.ly/2sQgtzn
You would probably create a page for your next course with a great syllabus and send your subscribers email with a huge promo like 50% off now till next Monday or so, then will be only 30%, etc. If nobody buys your course that means something is wrong and you will think about what it is. If they buy, great, go ahead and build the actual course with a great syllabus, and deliver as soon as it's done (or even when some part is done, like lesson by lesson or so).
Good luck!
