Hey 👋
A while back I started a free, monthly trending keywords and content opportunities newsletter. Here's a little bit about our progress and where we are today:
4 things we've learned:
1. When you're creating a newsletter about something you're genuinely interested in, the research and putting it all together is never a chore. That makes sticking to a schedule much easier.
2. You have to share what you're doing consistently. Without any money behind the marketing of this email, we had to be fairly relentless about sharing it. That means regular tweets and LinkedIn updates, as well as personalised invitations via email to anyone we think might be interested in the email. Hard work, but worth it.
3. Don't take the unsubscribes personally. At the moment we're sitting at an average unsub rate of 0.76%. Not bad at all. However, it's really hard not to get a little upset at each one of the unsubscribes we get - even though we know we shouldn't. After all, every unsubscribe strengthens the quality of your list - those that remain are genuine fans.
4. Share your process. We've started sharing one trending keyword research tip in each email and our subscribers really enjoy that. It adds even more value to the email.
By the way, if you've got any questions at all, just let me know below and I'll do my best to answer them! ✔️
All in all, we're really happy with how it's going. In fact, happy enough that we're finally going to put some marketing dollars behind it and give it a bigger push.
What I'm after at this stage from the community is a little feedback on the email itself. I've linked to a web browser version below and I would be eternally grateful if you had any advice to share on the content AND, if you have any, some advice on where we could promote the email outside of the obvious channels like LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook and Reddit.
We're looking for some hidden gems and we know this community is going to be the place to find them!
