"Paul Graham" as a service.

At first, I hesitated to apply first principles thinking.

I didn't know where it would lead me.

"Chief of Stuff is your personal startup accelerator."

For a long time, I thought that was it.

What more fundamental truth could there be?

But eventually, the truth stared at me.

Chief of Stuff is "Paul Graham" as a service. ๐Ÿคฃ

If you like the idea, consider giving it a ๐Ÿ”ผ on Product Hunt.

Hey, thanks for sharing. It's so cool to have first principles thinking on your side!

applying first principles thinking โ€“ because who needs second or third principles anyway? I hesitated too, but then I realized it's like using the GPS for your life when you're not even sure where you're headed.

Thank you all for the valuable feedback.
I've done away with the old pricing, and am trying weekly pricing with a fixed number of hours for each tier. This will hopefully make it easier for people to try out the service and only commit for one week if they like, at much more approachable prices.

Users complained about two things about Chief of Stuff โ€“ my productized service.

      1. I was offering too many services. I was everything to everyone, and nothing to nobody.

      2. My pricing wasn't friendly to people who wanted to quickly try out the service .

So, in my biggest pivot to date, Chief of Stuff is now "Affordable marketing subscriptions for startups."

Chief of Stuff now offers the following services as affordable weekly subscriptions that you can cancel anytime.

      Positioning
      Brand positioning and messaging.

      Social Media
      Copywriting for social media posts.

      Blogs
      Blog setup and copywriting.

      Email Campaigns
      System setup and campaign copywriting.

      LinkedIn Campaigns
      LinkedIn campaign setup and copywriting.

      Newsletters
      Newsletter setup and copywriting.

      Landing Pages
Landing page design, setup and copywriting.

      Creative Brainstorming
Ideation for new marketing, product and feature concepts.

How does this work with a subscription? Clients can ask you for things that cost you 1 hr or 10hrs

I would be open to trying that.

I can see how you might get overwhelmed pretty quickly with more than just a few clients. Especially since you are offering full business/startup consultant services.

You might consider offering a smaller menu of services, focusing on a specific area of launch/growth in startups.

Also, since you are just a business consultant, you might offer some a la carte services instead of only a monthly retainer. That way new clients can get a chance to try you out and you can make some small wins along the way.

I tend to agree. This has been a concern of mine, and I'm trying to gauge what people are most interested in. After a few clients, it would make sense to remove services that aren't being requested, and then to refine the positioning to match the services that are most requested.

It's still early days, but yes, some rethinking is required.

      Thanks!

And not to degrade your services or experience, but your services list has the feel to it like a handyman that also mows laws and paints houses and is an exterminator and pressure washes driveways and washes windows and on and on...

If I need my lawn mowed, I'm going to call the top rated lawn service in my area, not the guy that 'also' mows lawns.

And just like I'm not going to hire you to design/build me a landing page when I can hire a company that specializes in that. And for less than 2-3k a month.

I'm not trying to roast you or your idea, I just wanted to give you some honest feedback.

It seems to me that you should consider either limiting your services to a fraction of what you are offering and really niche down or hire a team where you have people specializing in each service area you want to offer (like other accelerators). Running a one person accelerator just seems unrealistic.

I hope you're able to figure out how to make it work for you though. Good luck!
