Pay-per-Use vs Monthly Subscription – Your Thoughts?

Hi, Indiehackers! I am Andrei, founder of Clippulse, a SaaS that allows people to create promo videos for their products without any video editing skills required.

Right now, the pricing model is pretty simple: a credit-based system, where people can use the app for free and only per for exporting their videos if they are satisfied with the result.

The reasoning behind it is that it's an app that normally you wouldn't use on a daily basis, so I thought that one-time payments would make more sense.

But a few days ago, I received this feedback on an older post:

It seriously got me thinking and, to me, it makes perfect sense. But before building this, I want to hear some other opinions.

I am not planning on removing the one-time payments, but rather adding another option.

An important mention here is that there are some costs whenever someone exports a video, so as much as I'd like to add an unlimited option, unfortunately, it's not possible.

Let's say that you were interested in using the product. If you had the following options:

  • Pay $11 per export
  • Pay $29 per month with a 30 export limit each month

Which one would you choose?
