Pivoting to a new project

In 2022, I started statsph.com as a hobby project. statsph helped to show statistics about Product Hunt launches.

  1. Most active launch days on weeks
  2. Time window on most launches happen
  3. Daily, Weekly, and monthly breakdowns.
  4. Interviews with founders

There were 2 things I did not like about statsph.

  1. It was exclusive to Product Hunt
  2. The value statsph was bringing is very specific to a micro niche (not sure if that's a word. )

The Pivot

I wanted to make the project cover a broader aspect of indiehacking.

Presenting https://indiediscuss.com. Previous functionalities stay, but opening doors for new ones as well.

Migrating to a new domain is a bit of a challenge.

  1. Buying a new domain and having a permanent redirect in place.
  2. Property migration in the search console, which takes about 2-3 weeks.
  3. Redirecting popular links.
  4. Taking a hit on bad search performance.

But keeping long run in mind, these setbacks might pay off.

I like your article, and there are some questions are remained. I am trying to launch my startup with my teams, and we are still looking for a new domain. The domain is over $3,500, which would be too much for us. Of course .com domain would be the best idea to start with, but if you suggest an alternative domain, .ai, .io would be a good options as well?

Not an expert on the topic, but sharing what I'd do.
If I had a project focusing on AI, I'd go for a .ai domain.

Otherwise, I'd go for a .io or .app domain.
