
Plans are inconsistent with improvisation. You have the most information when you’re doing something, not before you’ve done it.
We tend to overthink projects and workout every detail upfront. The end result is that you don’t know where to start and you continually second guess your decisions.
Give up on the guesswork. Decide what you’re going to do this week, not this year. Figure out the next most important thing and do that.
This week I’ve been working on the general UI of GetSmart. A website builder that makes it less complicated and more fun for Small Business Owners to create a beautiful website.
Checkout some of the screenshots attached. It’s a hybrid between a traditional CMS and a WYSIWYG builder.

I have realised recently, upon following the weekly planning approach, that it is easier to lose sight of long term ambitions while operating this way. Don’t get me wrong, planning for long term is not spared from huge guesswork, but I have found it better to have an extremely flexible draft of long term plan which can be improved on the go. It’s important to have a system that lets you frequently revise your planning based on new inputs and incorporates existing insights. Weekly goals need the long term plan as a guiding mechanism.
In other words, the inputs from weekly efforts could be fit into a macro structure of long term plan and the same can further be used for coming weeks’ planning.
