Please vet my product idea - IMAP via webhook

I'm building a SaaS providing webhook / api access to email accounts. It is meant to be very comfortable to use for devs and looked at as an infrastructure component. With a usage based pricing, think AWS lambda pricing.

Market

I've noticed the founder and guy behind EmailEngine is also on IH, his product is fantastic, very reasonable priced and does everything i'd need for my current problem and then some but i can't justify the needed infrastructure to run it reliably.

The alternative would be Nylas who is simply to expensive for me.

Initial Features

  • Receive a webhook call, when a new email arrives, to your application
  • Call a JSON API to send an email through the connected email account
  • Send users to a "logo customizable" page to connect there email account so your application never has to touch the credentials

Questions

  • Is the value proposition good enough for it to be an external service you'd use?
  • Am i missing an existing product which aims to solve the exact same scope of problems?
  • What would you see as a reasonable price per email account ?

@marv very interesting. Is your core differentiation from EmailEngine that yours would be hosted and SaaS, whereas EmailEngine is self-hosted?

@shekisms yes! Also my feature set is way more limited then email engines but therefor much more streamlined and hopefully simpler to use.

That sounds intriguing. I would be surprised if someone hasn't done this already.

This feels like it needs to be out there in the market and something I would use if building a product that needed to listen to email traffic.

        Good luck!

Happy to provide more feedback as you make progress.
