Podcast recording & editing stack

Here's how we do things at Startup to Last...

Recording:
We use Zencastr to record the actual audio, and do a separate video chat (we use a Google Meet, but Skype, Zoom, etc. would work just as well). I'd highly recommend using something like Zencastr rather than recording the audio directly from Skype or whatever because the quality is so much better (it records each person locally and merges the audio into one track)

Editing:
I use Audacity. The Zencastr produced audio is already pretty good (I think they normalize/compress the audio automatically), so I only edit for content. I just add some intro music, trim the beginning and end of the recorded audio, and maybe cut out any sections that didn't go well.

Transcribing:
We tried a few services and settled on Rev.com. It was by far the best one we tried in terms of price, speed, accuracy, and experience. After we get the transcription back, my co-host @ricklin goes in an cleans things up. I don't think that's strictly necessary, but it makes the content much higher quality vs. normal transcripts which are mostly just good for search and SEO.

Hosting:
We use transistor.fm for podcast hosting, but we don't use the website hosting they provide. I think what they offer is perfectly fine, but we want to have more than just podcast content on the site, so we have our own site hosted with Squarespace (https://www.startuptolast.com/). So we upload each episode to Transistor and then embed that on our real site.

Distribution
I host with Captivate.fm but previously used Simplecast.com and Megaphone.fm. I want so badly to use Transistor but don't want to spend $49/mo which is where my number of downloads would put me.

Descript seems like a really cool novelty, just can't imagine relearning a new system altogether.
