How did you acquire these initial users? Was there a particular platform or strategy that worked best?

It was a bit of trail and error. I has two platforms that worked: Facebook group and Reddit.
Once you are involved in discussions in a Facebook group, you not only make yourself more visible but also become reliable. Also sharing a FREE course helps as it doesn't cost to enrol.
Reddit has been volatile maybe due to its algorithm. One post of mine got me more than 70 sign ups whereas all others combined was less than 10. Maybe the algorithms in Reddit were different.

Were there any particular sub-reddits you found more effective than others?
The first sub reddit I posted happened to be the most successful one. My guess is it was about Reddit not trying to show my posts more from my second post onward. Otherwise my second post was in a group having 10 times more people and yet no sign ups!
