Remote co-founders, what are your tips for making it work?
My co-founder and I work in different cities in the UK. We try and meetup once every couple in months for an in-person catch up but you can still feel communication isn't as effective as being in one place.
We make a very good team so I'd like to be able to improve our remote partnership.
I was wondering if anyone else is in the same position and could share tips on how to be a more effective remote founding pair?
Communicate often and regularly. More often when something's not quite right. Be involved. Video is better than voice, which is better than text. Collaborate on agendas to make sure everyone has input into the topics discussed.
Honest answer? Slack and regular catch ups.
Indie Hackers is a remote team. I've never physically met any of the team. Mostly we communicate on Slack and I personally have a catch up call with Courtland every couple weeks or so.
Ministry of Testing that I built up (now 9 employees people) is remote. It's fairly similar to IH to be honest, the main difference is that the conferences we run are often used as a way to catch up physically. When there are tensions, normally they can be fixed quickly via a (video) call. I tend to avoid video calls as much as possible, I know some other team members like them more than me, often they will catch up separately.
I love working remotely, I have so much control over when and how I work. And I just know at my stage of life, remote is the only option for me.
