SaaS PMF is a myth? So what's real?

Okay, I know you think it's a clickbait but it's not. I mean it - PMF is a goal that should not be pursued. Let me try to explain why I decided to share it with y'all and what I believe should be pursued as a SaaS founder.

Product Market Fit is future, past but never present

SaaS entrepreneurs never start a product with a clear PMF, they envision how this is going to be in the future. When they get a high demand for their product they usually are VERY scared that someone else will copycat them and provide the same value in a cheaper, more easy & robust way. And eventually someone d. So they might see a huge drop in their new signups. A non-SaaS example would be horses. Horses used to be a leading transportation method, but once vehicles become cheaper and easier to use horses stopped being a leading transportation method.

Retention is the ONLY goal

As a SaaS entrepreneurs you only need to think about how many customers will stick with you forever. Wait - forever? what does it even mean? A SaaS business only makes money if their customers keep paying them. So yes, forever.

Will be happy to get feedback on this topic. Also, how do you measure retention on a daily/monthly basis? Can you share what KPIs in your dashboard explain your retention indicator?
