The Scaling Ethereum Hackathon was held during two of the busiest months for me, plus the 2nd shot of the COVID vaccine, I was only able to work on it during the morning before the noon submission deadline.
With such glorious excuses, I did learn how to use MATIC and some of the really useful features provided by the layer 2 solution provider.
I was able to produce a Parimutuel smart contract launched on Mumbai test-net, and use the MATIC tutorial on PoS bridge to bridge over Ethereum assets. I have successfully tested the Parimutuel smart contract by creating a pool and entries for different buckets, and settle the pool with the winning bucket and auto-distribute the payouts after fees deducted.

It does with layer 2 (L2) solutions like Polygon (ex Matic). This is the only way to overcome the scalability trilemma (improving throughput while keeping decentralization and security).
