Seeking: Plant Based Nutrition Enthusiast - Marketing / Business Development Cofounder

Hi! My name is Dan, and I’ve got a unique opportunity for the right person. I’m the sole developer of The Scientific Meal Planner - a meal planning SaaS application that uses the recommendations of nutrition science to generate optimally balanced meal plans for health and longevity.

In short, it takes the advice of one of the most respected evidence based nutrition authorities - nutritionfacts.org, and generates meal plans that fit their exact criteria - the daily dozen.

People have always sought the fountain of youth, but the best we can actually do is optimize our diet based on the best available science. By distilling the latest science into a meal planning algorithm, we can help the average person maximize their health without needing to become a nutrition expert themselves. This is the purpose of The Scientific Meal Planner.

If that sounds up your alley, read on.

This project has been a one man show thus far. The app is built and has ~70 subscribers as of now. I’ve given marketing a bit of a shot and had minor success… but I hate it and don’t know what I’m doing. It’s not my thing. I want to be improving the features and functionality of the app. That’s where you come in.

I’m seeking a cofounder to come in and handle all aspects of marketing and business development, leaving me to focus on engineering. Your goal will be to grow the subscription base of The Scientific Meal Planner. You’ll have complete autonomy on how to achieve that, but here’s what I can imagine you getting up to:

  • Writing blog posts about whole food plant based nutrition topics
  • Manage and develop partnerships with recipe bloggers (there’s an affiliate program)
  • Creating content for social media marketing (check out the instagram)
  • Maybe videos of you meal prepping the meal plans? Etc.
  • Everything is on the table. I’m looking for a partner! Bring ideas!

We need to be on the same page about the goal of this endeavor. For me, this project is exciting because I get to use my engineering skills to do something that can actually help people improve their lives. I get a real sense of fulfillment out of that. You should share that sense of wanting to do work that actually matters.

From a business perspective, the goal is to generate enough income to be able to work on this forever. It’s not to get rich. We will never accept VC funding, and we will try to remain as lean as possible to make sustainability happen. It’s intended to be a lifestyle business. I’m envisioning a future where we can both put in 20 hours a week and have our modest needs met while living comfortably. You should value time over money.

It’s not yet a sustainable business. MRR is at $400/mo. It will take time to grow to a sustainable place. I am personally considering going the digital nomad route and living in cheap places for 1-2k/mo (Thailand, etc) for the next two years to try and ramp things up. This is an opportunity for someone in the same boat, who can get by on that sort of money for the next few years as we scale up. Seeking an adventurous risk taker I guess :)

You can work from anywhere, any hours, take a four day work week (I’m a firm believer that this is actually more productive).

I think the best way to start would be this: we start with a 6 month contract where I just pay you. I can guarantee your floor at 35k/year (enough to cheaply digital nomad, straight out of my software engineer salary).

At the end of that time, if we’re jiving and you’ve demonstrated ability to grow the subscriber base, we will restructure the company as a worker owned cooperative. I’ll quit my software engineer job and go full time on this. Since it’ll be just you and me at that point, it’d be 50/50. Your income is only capped by your ability to successfully market this thing.

Escape the 9-5, help me grow this thing and achieve the lifestyle of your dreams while doing good for the world!
