It's no secret that COVID accelerated the growth of the digital creator economy. Platforms were reporting 100% year-over-year growth across the board by the middle of 2020. Everything I know about doing marketing I learned during that time. Today, while the impact of COVID on our society is far from over, many nations are operating in-person again, and adjusting has been tricky. In fact, I've run up against a particular problem so often that I decided to build something to fix it.
Online, marketing is plenty hard, but one thing is easy: dropping a link to your product at the end of a thread, presentation, or conversation. Over the summer, when I found myself having the same sort of interactions in person that I used to have online, I pretty quickly discovered that the conversion rate on someone remembering the name of my product and deciding to look it up later was a lot lower than receiving a link. I'm moving to DC soon and I wanted to have something to fix this problem before I moved.
Product cards are a tangible link to my digital product that I can use in the real world, and I partnered with a local, family-owned print shop in Grinnell, Iowa to make them available to all creators. Right now, they are available for Gumroad creators, but I plan to support 30+ platforms as soon as possible.
Let me know if there are any platforms that you think I should support or other marketing materials that would be useful for creators as we engage new audiences in the physical world.
