As a developer sometimes it's tough to say this out loud but developing Microstartups is 30% Marketing, 25% Sales, 30% Customer Service, and 15% Tech. Sometimes I focus so much on my love for building products I forget the key components of building businesses. Anyway, developing leads and sending cold emails/ direct messages is a numbers game. It's about volume. Fortunately for me, I live in a major city (London) where I can generate lots of warm leads.
Here's a preview of my copy, I have two versions. The first was my original and the second is the modified version created by a friend that has experience managing these emails for companies:
Original:
Subject: Would you like a Free Website for {Company Name}?
Hello {Company Name},
My name is Dominic, I am the founder of Dominic O Norton Ltd, a London based mobile and web design agency.
I want to offer {company name} a free website design and maintenance package! Why? Because currently our research and development team are exploring a new venture similar to a “Groupon” concept and we want to work with you. We are seeking quality food and drink establishments like yourself the opportunity of partnering with us. In return for a free website and maintenance, we are asking you to sign up for our discount scheme offering customers discounts on your food and drinks (the discount options are open to discussion but initial ask would be a 25% discount on hot beverages to customers who present a code.
We believe by offering this discount, as a proven business strategy, it will draw in more customers, increase sales as well as offer opportunities for up-selling, and building a positive reputation.
This discount will be earnt from our site, be a great deal for your customers, and overall offer the potential for higher revenue.
Would this be of interest to {company name}? If so, Can we schedule a call to discuss more?
Kind regards,
Dominic

Subject: Increase Sales and Marketing opportunity for {Company Name}?

Regardless of whether the first or second is better the most important thing is to SEND THAT EMAIL & MAKE THAT PHONE CALL to onboard people to your platform.
Has this seen any traction? Coming from a B2B background, I personally think both of these emails are extremely long.
Couple things I’ve found that have worked for me:
Example:
Hi John,
I’ve seen so many Instagram stories of your food, it looks amazing 👌
The reason I’m reaching out is, we’re building a “Groupon” style platform, that incentivises foodies to use discounts codes, increasing the likelihood of returning customers and improving growing brand awareness.
John, if you’re open to learning more, I’d love to have a chat.
Thanks
Thanks, Charlie:
I've only started sending emails out today. I'll do some AB testing with yours and my friend's version. Your experience is noted...make it mobile friendly...short subject line.
Thank You
There is no Silver bullet, but remember it’s extremely hard to close on the first message.
In case you need to generate more leads, this might help you out: https://prospectrole.com
Generates leads in seconds and verifies the emails 👍
regardless of any comments, when it comes to prospecting, you should just go for it, send 50 to a 100 emails of the same copy to the same persona and look at replies.
And then keep AB testing your "control" copy against a new one until you sell your firm.
Then, I agree, both emails are too long.
Here's a copy I did using the science I uncovered here https://www.indiehackers.com/post/i-analyzed-64-562-cold-emails-sent-over-the-last-2-years-here-s-how-you-should-probably-rewrite-yours-c51503afa8
Subject: Intro (their first name) & Dominic
Hello {their first name},
I saw online that SOMETHING YOU SAW ONLINE RELEVANT TO YOUR OFFER which led me to assume that you are actively looking for new clients.
Would it be a bad idea to open up a new, incremental channel of acquisition for COMPANY?
Research shows that customers react +X% more to a new product when a discount is offered.
Reason why I reached out today is because we only work with quality establishments like COMPANY (btw I love SOMETHING YOU SAW THAT CAUGHT YOUR ATTENTION).
Is this worth exploring on your side?
Dominic
this is your first touch, again, in what I shared, I realized you should include 6 to 9 touch points before calling it quits
Happy to discuss further more over the phone if needed
I initially saw your email but it's lost now can you send it again, please?
Thanks for the help. Sure that will really help. I can help you with product development from a technical and strategy standpoint
I'd love that!
Don't like the word "scheme" -- it makes it sound a little shady.
"discount will be earnt from our site" - I don't understand what that means, so maybe that entire paragraph can be removed to avoid confusion.
Reworded:
By offering this discount, it will draw in more new & existing customers, increase sales, offer opportunities for up-selling, and help you build a positive brand reputation.
I don't like either of the subject lines -- they sound kinda gimmicky and would likely wind up in my trash.
Maybe: Free website program. No strings. No gimmicks
You can probably cut down the length by 50% and get the same message across with fewer words.
Hope the feedback helps!
Thanks Mike, very true. I'll adjust to your feedback and test all options.
