• Do a long tail keyword search and write articles based on what you find to position yourself
• Write a few "pillar" articles that answer a specific question that your audience is asking. Incorporate internal and external links --> Use https://answerthepublic.com/ for this
• Contact media / blogs / websites in the same or related theme as you and ask them to do guest articles

Here are some things I think are important to keep in mind for a new site:

• It will usually take a long time. Don't expect to see great results within a couple months. I usually tell clients that sustainable, long-term strategies will take 9-12 months before you start hitting paydirt.
• Avoid black hat methods. I've tried this in the past, admittedly, but it will absolutely only result in short-term gains and long-term pain. Avoid cheap Fiverr-type gigs as well...good SEO isn't cheap.
• Focus on helpful, researched, extremely detailed long-form original content. Lots of helpful images, 5000+ word articles and guides, and great branding help a new site more than anything else.
• Make sure your site's performance (especially on mobile) is on point.
