Show IH: Finding people with similar goals
I am trying to build myself a close network of people who have 'similar goals' to mine. I really struggle with focus and organisation, some of the accountability groups I have joined before are with people that I didn't share enough in common with so I end up losing interest.
I have built https://similargoals.com as my home to find my few folks who identify as being in a similar position to myself and want to help each other.
The plan is for a weekly "week ahead" chat and to have a way to check in each day.
There's a related idea that's useful: "You are the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with."
The easiest way to do this is to join the right society, the right community, the right club. Then you get lots of people all at once, and an accompanying culture that helps set you on the path you want to be on, and keep you there. For Indie Hackers, I think that can be achieved by starting or joining a local IH meetup, and meeting at least once or twice a month.
If you can't do it offline, then I recommend group chats, group calls, and 1-on-1 chats and calls. Internet forums like IH are great, too. But I think they're necessarily as "deep" as spending dedicated time with a small number of peers, and having sustained conversations. That said, they're a great place to find those peers.
