Showcasing my new project: Obra Icons

I launched a project called Obra Icons and I want your feedback.

I took me about 7 days total + around 4 days of external freelancers work (paid of course) to work this out. I already launched a similar project before so I had a head start in what was needed.

This has been an exciting project to work on. I feel like I managed to do a lot in not that much time:

  • Design and develop the website at icons.obra.studio
  • Dive into the setup to be able to sell the source files
  • Improve the icons themselves with a fellow designer
  • Work on the development of the Svelte package for Obra Icons: importing an icon in your project is as simple as writing import { IconFish } from "obra-icons-svelte"
  • Work on the search aspect of the website, powered by AI to have a fuzzy search (everything has to be powered by AI now, right?)
  • Iterate on the commercial and license aspect

The website is ready to use today, as well as the Svelte package.

You can find the website at https://icons.obra.studio/ and the Svelte package at https://www.npmjs.com/package/obra-icons-svelte . This REPL shows how to use it: https://svelte.dev/repl/ea6b4b136d054277ac05275a9c6dbe23?version=4.2.1 .

For $20 you can download the source files, which should be super handy for any designer wanting to use and/or extend the icon set. The purchase link is on the website.

I am wondering what other indie hackers think about this project. All feedback is welcome.

Almost everything about this project is freely accessible and remixable. You can use the icons for free in your own projects, the only part that is paid is access to the source files.
