SignalWhisperBot July Update: €35 → €65 MRR (+86% in one month)

Quick update on the Signal transcription bot journey! 2 weeks ago (July 18) I shared hitting €55 MRR after a year of building.

I'm considering writing monthly reports to document this journey - let me know if you find these updates useful!

July was a breakthrough month.

The numbers compared to June

  • MRR: €35 → €65 (+86%)
  • Paying users: 9 → 16 (+78%)
  • Monthly signups: 46 → 58 (+26%)
  • SEO traffic: 117 → 160 clicks (+37%)

What Actually Moved the Needle

UX optimization focus - After seeing a significant signup drop for one week in July, I dove deep into the user experience. Found several friction points:

Custom checkout fix - Had this confusing "Pay €0" button for free signups that killed conversion. Built a custom form instead. Went from 1 signup/day baseline to 2-5 signups/day consistently after deploying end of July.

Better onboarding confirmation - Improved the post-signup message to prevent users from failing to link their account after registration. Was losing people right after they signed up.

First Pro conversion - Someone went straight from free to €9.99 Pro plan. Skipped the €3.49 tier entirely. Shows the pricing tiers are working.

The theme was: iterate on everything related to signup and conversion flow.

What Could Move the Needle

Warning message optimization - Split the quota warning into two messages: problem first, then solution. Way better than cramming everything into one confusing text. Too early to measure impact but feels more user-friendly.

Referral program - Testing with existing paying customers first. If you refer someone who pays, you get a free month.

What Flopped

Email discount campaign - Sent 30% discount to German users. 0 conversions. Cold discounts don't work when users aren't already frustrated with limits.

LinkedIn content - Tried posting growth content but my French network doesn't care about Signal bots. Wrong audience entirely.

Technical Infrastructure for Better Data

Built a redirect system for upgrade links that also streamlines the user flow. Now when users want to upgrade, they go directly to Stripe portal where they can choose their plan - instead of: my plans page → Stripe checkout → existing account check → email verification → finally portal. Way too many clicks before.

Hoping this will help increase conversions while also letting me track who clicks vs who just sees the warning. Should help understand where users drop off in the conversion funnel.

Also fixed a webhook bug where paying users kept getting quota warnings. Embarrassing but caught it before any complaints.

August Plans

Referral program - Testing with existing customers first. If you refer someone who pays, you get a free month.

Review automation - Auto-email asking for Trustpilot reviews after users upgrade. Need more social proof.

Content SEO - Writing comprehensive guides instead of just feature announcements. Long-form content performs way better.

Lessons This Month

The biggest insight: small UX fixes can have massive impact. That checkout change doubled my signup rate, which should lead to more conversions down the line.

Also learning that user behavior data > assumptions. I thought Germans would love discounts but they convert differently than US users.

Still struggling with getting user feedback though. Most people just... don't reply to emails asking what they think.

Question for other makers: How do you get quiet customers to actually tell you what features they want?

Goal is still €500 MRR by end of year. Need to 7x from here, but July showed it's possible to move fast with the right optimizations.
