Everyone these days talks about fast growth, faster growth, fastest growth, fastestest growth...
But it will not be surprising, if in the near future, startups/ companies hire a ‘Slow growth’ consultant
Responsibility of this guy would be - To co-ordinate with all the stakeholders and make them realise that it's ok if we are not growing as fast as our mind is fantasizing, set realistic goals, de-condition everyone from peer pressure etc.
So whats your opinion, how can we hire such a person? :P :D
More companies should grow slowly, imho. I couldn't imagine doing it any other way, it was how I grew Ministry of Testing. Reluctant to grow at every stage, lol.
Yes makes sense.
We should not be always fanatic about hyper growth
I'd say to hire a growth consultant/CMO who practices inbound marketing. Sustainable and consistent growth comes through developing and nurturing relationships first. The sell should only come at the right time, and often that's a longer process. MECLabs/Marketing Sherpa has a lot of good content about this.
I think 'slow' is the wrong word. 'Consistent' might be a better word?
Yes right - Consistent is the right word.
Was trying to be sarcastic and hence wrote 'slow'
I don't think there's anything wrong with using 'slow'. There are movements around the word 'slow' - slow food, slow living, etc. It's more associated with roots and being ethical, imho.
I would happily call myself a Slow Growth Consultant :)
Congrats!! You will be in huge demand soon :)

It's funny, but the bulk of my consulting work is very, very similar to this.
I call it 'profit optimisation' (because I started off doing conversion rate optimisation but that didn't quite cover it).
There's definitely a market of companies who are happy to work with a 'realistic' growth consultant who doesn't promise 2x MoM growth, but can point to 5-6 areas of 'low hanging fruit', where the business can make an extra 2-5% in profit each.
Happy to answer any questions about this side of my work. I don't talk about it on IH much because it's not a service that most IHers need or could afford.
Thanks for the offer.
But not seriously looking for such person. All the best!

Yes I agree. Was trying to be funny.
Lets call this position as 'Sanity Growth' Manager .
The idea is basically we should not be insane ad crazy about the super growth.
