Something I’ve noticed about why founders misread their landing page analytics

Most founders look at analytics and think they understand why people aren’t converting.

But analytics mostly tell you what users did, not what they were thinking when they did it.

Example:

A founder sees:

• 60% scroll
• 20% reach pricing
• 3% convert

The assumption is usually:

“Something in the funnel is broken.”

But often the real problem happened before the user even scrolled.

Things like:

• unclear positioning
• trust hesitation
• cognitive overload
• unclear mental model of the product

Users don’t say “this landing page is confusing.”

They just leave.

That’s why so many founders A/B test surface things (colors, button text) instead of fixing the psychological friction happening in the first 10 seconds.

Something I’ve been experimenting with recently is trying to simulate how different personality types interpret the same landing page before running experiments on real users.

It’s been interesting to see how different the interpretations can be.

Curious:

How do you usually figure out why users hesitate on a landing page?
