Not long ago I was watching a presenter speak to a large audience - everything was going great, interesting content, clever ideas...
But after 5 minutes of working their way through the slides, the signal came from the back of the room - a single raised finger, that strikes terror into the heart of every public speaker - '1 minute!'. The speaker then proceeded to do what almost everyone in this situation would do - start rushing through slides, using vague language like 'this doesn't matter that much - we can skip it...' and generally giving the impression of disorganisation and stress.
I thought the content of the presentation was great - what a pity the last impression of this person was of them standing, sweating, rushing through slide after slide in greater and greater stress as the host started walking back up to the front to interrupt their vain attempt to finish...
Anyone who has had to pitch their product, do a presentation at work or even deliver a sermon will know this feeling of time pressure - it's uncomfortable and distracting. I've experienced it myself several times. So I thought, why couldn't I build a product to solve this?
But wait - I know what you're thinking. There are a ton of AI vocal coaches out on that octopus of connections we call 'The Web', so how can this be different? Well, all these tools are great for preparing you BEFORE your speech (offering practice, tips etc.) but give absolutely no live insights DURING your speech.
What if there was an AI tool where you upload your script and have your personal AI speech advisor listen to you AS YOU PRESENT to the audience, and give subtle pointers like 'Speed Up - You're doing great!' or 'Slow Down - You can take your time on this section!'.
Not only that, but what if you could highlight the important parts of your script in advance, and, if you find yourself running behind, let AI redraft the last sections for you in the background WHILE YOU'RE SPEAKING the prior sections, eliminating unnecessary points as you directed and honing in on what YOU've marked as important. This would enable you to finish your speech without having to rush, even if you're running behind on time, giving your audience the feeling you're organised and professional.
I haven't actually built this yet - it's just a concept. But I have made a waitlist which you can sign up to via this link: https://dav-mm9hbp2q.scoreapp.com if you think this idea could be useful to you. Based on responses, I'll then explore building options!
This product has the potential to make public speaking at work, school or in religious settings a whole lot more relaxed for the speaker, make events run more accurately to time and prevent speaker embarrassment. It could even make audiences enjoy an event more. This is the SpeechPace concept.
Let me know what you think!
