Stand-Up #5 - 05.26.2020 - Idea Validation

Since my last post, I'd decided to create a blog and landing page using ConvertKit. Using their system rather than building a blog from scratch would save time, and still allow for a more custom blog in the future, if it was needed.

While going through their courses on what I should be focusing on, I found a great page from Ryan Robinson on validating a product idea in 30 days.

What Ryan highlights, is exactly what I had been looking for. He goes into detail on contacting potential customers, using relevant media channels to find prospects, and the nitty-gritty of collecting valuable feedback.

While blogging is great for building an audience and validating product ideas, it is a relatively long-term strategy. I'm not really sure what customer segment is best to focus on yet, and blogging would be a commitment to a customer segment that may be less profitable than I'd like. While a blog may prove to essential for my business in the future, focusing solely on idea validation minimizes complexity and risk.

For the next month or so, I'll be conducting customer discovery and idea validation for non-technical entrepreneurs wanting to build web and mobile apps. And I'll be documenting it all here. Stay tuned.

As a side note: The idea of customer discovery (while relatively new to me) has been around formally in literature for at least a few years. What I particularly like about Ryan's guidelines are his methods of creating connections from with previous strangers and validating an idea with relying on face-to-face communication. I've very excited :D
