Start a Business for $19

The market size of Password Management software is expected to reach $7 billion by 2030. Here’s how you can capitalise on this trend.

👀 What we’ve seen

The increasing prevalence of malicious activities targeting ‘soft target’ individuals, instead of companies, has led to a boom in the personal cyber-security market.

The average person's digital footprint will continue to expand, causing already soft targets to become softer.

As incidents rise and more people within an individual’s personal network become victims, mainstream apathy is turning into concern and fear.

At the same time, willingness to adopt solutions and pay for effective protection will rise too.

💡 The idea

Generate virtual emails, phone numbers and credit cards for individuals, and route emails, texts and transactions back to their ‘real’ accounts.

Like a Password Manager, this would ensure every online account has unique details. If one account is compromised, others won’t be threatened too.

Apple Pay actually does this by default. They generate a virtual email and card and route emails + transactions back to you.

🪜 Steps to execute

Estimated time to revenue: 7 days

  1. Build a single-page website to communicate the value proposition and capture emails and payment info. We like using Carrd.

  2. Get feedback on the landing page from people in your network who use Password Managers. If it’s not compelling enough for them to put their card in then iterate on the pitch until it is.

  3. For the MVP, just generate one virtual email, phone and card for people to use that routes to their own. You can do this using 1) Email forwarding rules in Gmail, 2) Twilio for phone numbers, 3) Stripe Issuing for virtual cards. Manually set this up and share over email after they’ve signed up.

  4. Test usage and get feedback with a group of ~5-10 people until you’re confident it’s worth investing in building the tech. If you need more beta users try Slack, LinkedIn, Discord or Facebook communities interested in personal cyber-security.

  5. Build out the tech + invest in marketing.
