The Brutal Truth About Startups: It Sucks, But It’s Worth It.
Have you ever wondered what it's truly like to run a startup? I will be honest building a startup can be incredibly challenging and intense. Here’s a breakdown into the highs, lows, and harsh realities of startup life that no one talks about. If you're experiencing this, you know what I mean. If you're just curious, prepare for what's coming!
Being in a startup sucks.
It sucks not knowing how much you’ll make from one day to the next.
It sucks trying to find a way to pay your employees when cash flow is tight.
It sucks knowing that if you don’t put the work in, NO ONE will.
It sucks being the only one who truly knows the codebase from start to finish—and if something breaks, you’re the only one who can fix it fast.
It sucks how you can’t rely on anyone, yet you need people for your startup to survive.
It sucks that people would rather uninstall your app than give feedback to help you grow.
It sucks that it’s not just about building, but about selling, too.
It sucks having to find new ways to show value to different people every second of the day.
It sucks proving yourself over and over again.
It sucks knowing you can’t always trust people, and even with a signed NDA, there’s always a fear someone will steal your work.
It sucks living with the constant worry that others might take your idea…but deep down, you know the struggles they’ll face, so you laugh and let it go.
It sucks how the workload never ends.
It sucks how hard it is to find a passionate partner without putting money on the table.
It sucks fighting the constant thoughts of giving up and wondering, is it really worth it?
Yeah. It sucks.
But here’s what doesn’t suck... looking back and realizing everything you’ve pushed through. Seeing the things you’ve built, the faith that got you out of bed every single day, no matter how burnt out you felt.
Because a startup would never exist without faith.
And maybe, that faith is what makes it all worth it. So if you’re in it, keep going. Because at the end of the day, every accomplishment is yours.
