Tactfully advertise side-projects on blogposts?

Hello there,

My blog posts get a decent amount of traffic. (combined around 200 views per day, with occasional spikes to a few thousands because of HN). I thought of using these blog posts to advertise my side / open source project(s). As I'm using Medium, I can't link my side-projects elsewhere on the page.

The side-projects are related to the main topic of my blogs, namely Go programming, but not necessarily directly related to the content of the article. For example, most of my blogs are about Go and one side-project is for finding jobs with Go. Hence I could see an audience following me for Go content being interested in Go jobs.

The issue is, I don't want people to think the blogs are just pure advertisement (they are not). Yet I was thinking of adding something like a footer on each post to list some projects I work on.

What would be a tactful way on doing this? Or should I just keep those two separate? :)

Why not put it in your email signature, together with some emojis? I'm sure it will catch people's eyes.

Probably good to use Emojis, they are eye-catching indeed :)

I don't see anything wrong to have Go job ads on a Go blog, even big-ass ads at the top. Or I must have missed something. Where's the problem?? Just go to Medium and check how much crap I have to click away to get some content...

@Insanity You can, when possible, include & blend your project/s details including url besides few other examples, in an article.

thanks, that's what I try every now and then when I feel it's related enough :)

    Two suggestions.

    1. Build a personal site that provides a list of the projects, a bio, and ways to contact you.

Then I'd link from the Medium bio and call out that they can find out what else you're currently working on by checking out your personal site. This approach will help you start building your personal brand.

    1. Mix in some posts about what you're working on. Show your readers the challenges, successes, and issues you're working through to build them. It'd feel more authentic that way and not so spammy. People will be curious to check them out.

Mixing it in could work, that's good advice, thank you! :)

I don't see any problems with this. You are stealing nothing, everything you did is yours and you should be proud of it. If I were you I'd have a separate page on the blog where I'd list and describe all my projects.

Thanks for the feedback! that's what I've got now but I've yet to collect metrics to see how effective this is. :D
