The best idea you'll never build
Hi everyone, I find super difficult to have original ideas about online businesses, so I thought I would reach out to you for some inspiration.
What's your best product idea that you, for whatever reason, will never get to build?
I had this idea years ago.... I think it was a great idea. It's probably now a terrible idea!
It's basically a political news site where red and blue battle for most points of the day. I never was able to iron out the "game mechanics" of it. The idea is that people post news links or text (just like reddit) and people upvote or downvote (just like reddit) and they can comment and then up/down vote the comments... exactly like reddit. However, each user is affiliated to a political party and each party gets a score for the day. The score is based on each party's submission votes and comment votes...and whatever else is needed to make it a "fair" battle. It should still be a fair fight even if the site only has 300 "red" team vs 10,000 "blue" team. After figuring out the game mechanics then you have to figure out how to prevent bots/hacking/cheating - good luck!
Besides each side battling to win each day just for the sake of winning, the daily score could also be used as a political barometer. Sort of like the Dow Jones of politics e.g. "The democrats are up 20 points today on PolitiFight."
I think it could be really fun but I'm sure it's even possible.
