Hey everyone, Marie here.
I’m about to launch something new. It’s got a nice big red button. And it’s related to a big red brand, called YouTube. It’s awesome. I call it Text Ape (textape.io). And it is a YouTube Video Summariser. Here is the story.
I love watching YouTube.
I watch YouTube shows for fun, work and self education. And yet, regardless of how efficiently I set up my daily routine, I often can’t make up the time to watch the episodes of the shows I love. Either the episodes are too long to finish them. Or I’m too short on my free time.
It would be nice to have a Chrome extension that would summarise videos for me. I thought to myself.
Lately before building anything, I first do an SEO research. I look at the keywords, difficulty, volume of long tail queries and more. Big heads up to Danny Postma (link) here for teaching the way through tweets, podcasts and recently an SEO course (link). After a quick stroll through Ahrefs (link) and Google Trends (link), I have decided that SEO opportunity looks promising. And pulled the trigger.
Text Ape is a Chrome Extension. The primary function of Text Ape is to summarise YouTube videos. Videos of any length and content type. And that’s exactly what Text Ape does. It takes the text from the video and turns it into a short form actionable summary. There’s just one summary type for now. Of course we will add more summary types, if the users ask for it.
In addition to the main summary function, there are several other features. I personally call them “convenient nice to haves”.
The first is the full length transcript with timestamps navigation. This searching the videos for information you need very convenient.
The second one is the PDF export of the summary or the transcript. Text Ape renders a nice looking pdf document with the text in it. And you can then use the text for further analysis, content creation, teaching, class handouts and more.
And, well, there is more in the box:
All of that is packaged into a small elegant interface. On the right side from the YouTube video.
For me Text Ape is a time saver.
What about others?
Students can study faster. Get to the key points of the lecture in 10 mins. Rather than listen for hours. To me it sounds like a great way for catching up on skipped classes. Or for exam preparation.
Working professionals can go through long form tutorials faster, too. No need to put this or that tutorial off anymore. Stroll through a summary in minutes. Cross the task off your to-do list.
Investment professionals can get essential market information, again, faster. Market updates, investor interviews, earnings calls. All of that can be quickly processed with the help of Text Ape.
Content creators can use Text Ape as a tool for producing content. Turn Text Ape summaries for their newsletters, blog posts and social media articles. That is smart work, right?
Educators can use Text Ape to create teaching materials. Turn a YouTube video into course handouts, tests and more.
Thank you for reading. I hope, you will sign up for Text Ape launch waitlist here. I'd love to hear your thoughts and answer any questions. You can reach me directly at Marie on X.
