The Five-Year Plan: February 2021 update

Late in 2020, I wrote about my five-year plan:
https://www.indiehackers.com/post/the-five-year-plan-1k-to-10m-met-2020-goal-386cae79c3

and this is my first update on 2021's progress.

At a glance, the plan is as follows:

  • 2020: $1k total revenue (succeeded!)
  • 2021: $10k
  • 2022: $100k
  • 2023: $1m
  • 2024: $10m (and sell it for that much)

Each year also adds a new challenge. How do you 10x the thing you just did?

2021's goal of $10k total revenue means that I'm on target if I'm right around $1k a month. Of course, I hope to have higher numbers closer to the end of the year, to set me up for 2022, but hitting that basic monthly bar is a healthy sign.

I'm happy to report that January 2021 went just barely well enough:

  • AnalystsNow revenue: $625
  • Productized service test: $100
  • Book sales on Gumroad: $277

Total: $1,002. Really, just barely made it.

So, what's next for February?

  • The primary objective is to scale AnalystsNow, my done-for-you analytics service with unique monthly subscription pricing. I'll be focused on increasing prospects by cold email.

  • Secondarily, I've released the productized service and taken it out of testing. I hope it can be a way for AnalystsNow customers to dip their toes in the water and enjoy my unique skills for analytics engineering. More on that soon.

Overall, I'm happy. Setting a yearly goal means I have 12 monthly shots at the baby steps toward the goal. First shot was a goal. Now I just have to land 9 more!

😅 You're right. Funny how quaint old goals look...

That's the thing about setting 10x goals. Something I do at the end of one year should tee me up to keep it going in the next. I worry less now about having $1k months - I feel relatively confident about those - but I do think about how I'll get that to $10k months in 2022.
