There is something wrong with blockchain games

I am in love with the play-to-earn, web3 & NFT movement! I am like a kid, and it's so refreshing. But, there is something wrong.

Only super rich kids can play; we collectively waste billions of dollars in gas fees, and everything is over-complex for ordinary people.

They are alternatives (layer 2, lower-cost blockchains), but it makes everything more confusing.

I am testing a new approach with Kingdom; let's call it a "hybrid model." I am using the blockchain only as a "gateway."

Players can buy in-game money with Ethereum and exchange in-game money for Ethereum.

Etherum transactions are super cheap, only a few $$ compared to smart contract calls. A typical centralized database handles everything else.

And for players that really want to own some items, I am creating a smart contract — a system like the Amiibo of Nintendo. If you love this in-game stuff, you can mint it; But you don't need to save EVERYTHING on the blockchain.

I know it sounds less sexy. But do ordinary people care?

Advantages for players: almost no fees, don't need a crypto wallet to start, onboarding much more accessible, faster interaction.

Finally, I am not against decentralization, but we have to find some temporary solution to be more inclusive.
