True! Especially if you find a job at an interesting company. And, with an employment contract, usually a financially safer environment to develop yourself.

Infact, this is what I did at Indie Hackers.

I had a consistent and enjoyable gig whilst also allowing me to explore things on the side, and maintain my already existing business. 😅

Personally, I feel there are lots of opportunities to grow and learn in a day job that often aren't available to full time indie hackers.

It's a tricky line to walk in my experience. So much of "indie hacking" is really just a major mind shift, and that shift in thinking can clash with typical corp jobs. It's a skill to be able to switch from one form of thinking to another while not letting it effect either in any negative way.

This is a great advice and very thoughtful for someone like me who has just started an internship at a company.

Back in the day when indie hacking as called building a "killer app" - this was more the rule rather than the exception.

I think it all changed when Stripe acquired IH 😉 (just joking!)

Has anyone successfully managed part-time work (or freelance) alongside indiehacking? My concern with having a job to keep the bills paid is that I can't possibly spend more time at a computer after work without serious burnout, so I'm considering ways to keep bills paid with part time work. Unfortunately right now with COVID most accessible gig work is hard to come by. Any thoughts / ideas?

It's a great thread. Useful to think of "having a job" as a spectrum - there are more and more part-time gigs out there for experienced devs. This means you don't have to "burn the ships" but still have a lot more time for Indie Hacking.
