Today is launch day for DocBeacon on Product Hunt.

I built DocBeacon because I kept running into the same frustrating problem: important documents get sent out, then disappear into silence.

A proposal gets emailed.
A pitch deck gets shared.
A contract gets forwarded.

And after that, you're left guessing.

Did they open it?
Did they actually read it?
Did they stop halfway through?
Did they spend time on the pricing page, or skip right past it?

There are already products in this category, so I am not pretending this is some brand new idea. My reason for building DocBeacon was simpler than that: I felt the existing options were often too bloated, too expensive, or too disconnected from the workflow I actually wanted.

I wanted something lightweight and focused:

  • upload a document
  • generate a secure link
  • send it
  • understand what actually happened after sending

That became DocBeacon.

The product is built around secure document sharing plus deeper engagement visibility:

  • who opened
  • when they opened
  • how long they spent
  • which pages held attention
  • where engagement started to drop

One thing that has been interesting to me is that building the product was only half the challenge. The other half has been positioning it clearly enough that people immediately understand why this matters.

"Document sharing" sounds generic.
"Document analytics" sounds vague.
"Tracking" can sound invasive if explained badly.

But the real use case is simple: if a document is part of a sales, fundraising, or decision-making process, knowing how it was actually read can change how you follow up.

So today is partly a launch, but also partly a test:
Can I explain the problem clearly enough?
Will people see this as a real pain point, or just a nice-to-have?
Can a focused product still stand out in a category with much larger incumbents?

If you've launched on Product Hunt before, I'd really like to hear:

  • what actually moved the needle
  • what turned out not to matter
  • whether launch day traffic converted into anything durable afterward

And if the positioning still feels too abstract, I'd genuinely like to hear that too.
