Tools to help me know my competition

As Michael Thomas specified in one of his articles: "In order to find a unique position in the market you must look at the competitive landscape.". So that's what I'm trying to do, I'm looking for the competition of my SaaS (Software as a Service) idea, those that have similar business value or SaaS approach as mine. Here, in Indie Hackers, and on other websites (Like Product Hunt) I've already looked for similar products. I've also looked in google but I found forums and nothing really relevant. I would really appreciate it if you guys could provide me with the tools you know, that will allow me to research and get to know my competition. Thank you!

I've found searching for Facebook groups and/or Instagram hashtags very helpful, if you're willing to do a lot of digging

Sure! And that's a good one!
Actually, I've searched "Is there an app to..." in Twitter and there's a lot of information. That's one way to dig in social media.

A good tool is ahrefs.com or semrush to find keywords/other sites related to your product.

Okay! Thank you! I will keep those.

Hey, first, if you don't easily find competitors, then maybe ask yourself why they are not (easily findable)?

If it is because they are no competitors, then, it might not be a good sign.
It is often said that having competitors is a good thing as it means that:

    • there is a demand for your product or value proposition
    • the market is already educated about the problem you are solving and so, much incline to buy your solution.

Some tips to find your (best) competitors:

    1. If your product solves X then go over to Quora and try to look for: "How to solve X?" or "What are the best tools to solve X?".

Those kinds of Quora's questions are full of answers written by a guy trying to sell you a product, so there are great chances that you'll find at least some of your competitors there.

    1. You can also candidly go to Reddit in a relevant subreddit and ask the same question yourself. It should really make your more obvious competitors pops-up.

    2. https://alternativeto.net can also be a good source of information if you now at least one competitor

If you can be a little bit more precise about your idea/market I can maybe give you more useful tips! :)

Hey buddy, thank you very much for your useful information. My main problem right now is what you've already mentioned before: "the market is already educated about the problem you are solving and so, much incline to buy your solution.", and that's the opposite of what I know at this point. Basically my idea is aimed at iOS developers (Probably the new ones) to help their app approval go as smoothly as possible or to provide a service that will let them spend more time on their app instead of reading long-time consuming guidelines and checking if their app meets all Human-interface guidelines. By the way, very nice projects you have over there!

Figure out what keywords you'd target and use Google(look at ppc ads) or a tool like spyfu(trial is free).

I've found relevant things using keywords, thank you!
