Hey everyone!
I was thinking about what I can build in public, and I came up with improving the process of building in public. π
I'm building a toolset for open makers. Basically, there are two most important features:
- Collect and publish metrics from third-party apps like Google Analytics and Stripe. You will be able to create a public dashboard with selected metrics and automatically post key metrics on social media. ππ
- Write updates about the project and publish it on multiple platforms with one click (Twitter, IndieHackers, Linkedin). π
You can read more about my idea at https://candormakers.com
I will appreciate any feedback from you!
This is something I'd be interested in using!
But I'm not a Google Analytics user. I currently use Simple Analytics because it's privacy friendly and doesn't require a cookie banner.
Then there are other privacy friendly tools that I'm considering, like:
A lot of these products allow for public dashboards but it would be better to combined their data with Stripe revenue data on the same page.
Great, I'm glad that it's an interesting idea for you! I'm thinking about Simple Analytics integration, too! It's what I want to do, combine data from multiple sources on a single page.
Hi @devhulk, I'm also been thinking of this and how I see it building in public could work is as a marketplace: customers, investors & creators.
In this case a creator would select any of the N most common business models, and they'll be suggested metrics to track. The process would be linked to the Google spreadsheets were investors could play.
Customers on the other side would receive updates and deals on the hottest most beloved products. I'm happy to chat about this further and keep going! This is an amazing market opportunity!
Hi @SantiagoM, your idea is a bit different than mine, but it is also interesting! I would start with saas toolset, but someday maybe it will evolve into a marketplace ;)
I would also be interested. However, I use Matomo as my analytics solution.
Thanks, I noticed Matomo as a possible analytics provider. I need to figure out which one analytics platform is the best choice for the beginning.
On the direction Analytics is going, I would definitely not take GA as a feature.
As an example, I am hosting my own analytics, umami.is for all my 4 projects. Then you have many other options that are privacy friendly.
Also I would add Paddle and Gumroad together with Stripe.
Regarding the crossposting, Dev.to and hashnode is huge.
Good luck.
Thanks, I see that there are more data sources required :) But I need to choose sth for the beginning. I think that Stripe is the best choice for financial data. It's the most popular payment service. I'm still not sure what to choose as an Analytics provider. I need to research which Analytics platform is the most popular for open makers.
it is popular, yes but is not enabled in every country.
analytics,..well there is a huge variety, Hashnode is using plausible fo example.
hey i am struggling to use umami why don't you make a video on it please
I haven't done the set up myself, I had a friend doing so because I am a c***t.
You could ask, Mike Cao, the maker.

It has a completely different purpose. Segment aggregate data from multiple sources and pass them to other tools. CandorMakers will aggregate data from multiple sources and visualize them.
It would be cool to be able to add your tool as a Destination for Segment so that you could pull your data from there, at the same time getting into their list of integrations which could give you additional exposure.
That's an excellent idea! Thanks! For sure, I need to do it!
