Translated websites for SEO?

Does it help to have a version on our website in different languages? Especially SEO wise.

We do have regional customers from many parts of the word. Was wondering if we can create our homepage in the major languages of the customers. Would that help with SEO traffic? Please note that I plan to just use Google Translate to translate the pages.

Has anyone had experience with this?
