I just read part of a twitter thread. They're everywhere. They're great - sometimes.
This one is from a person I don't follow. At this point, I did not give them a follow.
After reading it, I got to thinking about the purpose of posting a thread and the long-term value of it.
I'd imagine a thread has a few purposes. I'm sure there are others. And not all threads have to serve all purposes at the same time. For example, you post a thread to simply share value with your community; and you could really care less about gaining followers from it.
Then I got to thinking about the long-term value, and asked myself a few questions:
I'm really just curious if "threaders" are using their thread content in other ways, or if the content is quickly lost in an endless Twitter feed (unless pinned to your profile).
Thoughts?
If you're a threader, what's your strategy?
I'm not a "threader" or tweeting a lot.
Someone I follow recently created his own website and sharing his twitter threads as a blog post. https://dmytrokrasun.com/ has a link to his twitter and github profiles on navigation.
I think it's good for readability and ease of use, being in order but it's not the best solution for marketing, in a blog post you'd aim for long-tail keywords with search volume and less competition whereas on threads you'd target some obvious categories as keywords. So the ones who follow the topic can see it. Unless there is some dark magic to provide good information with what google and twitter wants at the same time. Not so long for a thread and not so short for a blog post.
Most common CTA I've seen so far is to link the first tweet and asking for a retweet.
Overall I believe twitter content should remain in twitter. It's easier to plug your threads under popular tweets as a reply. Pin one thread or a thread of threads to the top and you'll be good. Also there is no penalty for retweeting your own threads so, write 30 threads and retweet them monthly. Don't let them lost in an endless Twitter feed :)
In my experience, the best way to "do" threads is to reply or retweet the thread with your own comments and addition to the list. Don't bother creating your own unless you have a lot of followers and visibility already.
It's a tactic I've recently started to use to sell my book and services and it's going pretty well.
Easy to repeat with any product to be honest.
