Unread count badge on Following tab: why gone?

Up to a year or so ago the Following tab on the Indie Hackers home page had a badge of the count of unread threads by the users I follow. It allowed to keep track of new content by the people I'm most interested in, i.e. the ones I follow.

Why is the badge gone?

The missing badge completely disrupted my reading workflow. I kept forgetting to manually visiting the tab to check for updates and eventually stopped opening it.
