"Talk to users". Okay, I've tried, but the users are just ignoring me. On the website, there's email, live chat, and a feedback widget. I've also manually emailed registered users. So far, none have worked. Users are not replying to me.
If my product is bad then why did they sign up? Why would users sign up but not share any feedback whatsoever?
There are a few reasons why users might sign up for your product but not provide feedback, even when prompted. Here are some possibilities:
Friction in the Feedback Process:
Difficult to Find: Make sure your feedback options (email, live chat, widget) are prominent and easy to find on your website. A hidden feedback button might discourage users from reaching out.
Too Time-Consuming: People are busy! Keep feedback forms short and sweet, with options for quick ratings and short comments. Offer incentives like contests or discounts for detailed feedback.
Unclear Purpose: Explain how the feedback will be used and how it benefits them. Let them know their input is valued.
User Mindset:
Silent Majority: Many users are happy with the product but simply don't feel the need to provide feedback unless they encounter a problem.
Negative Bias: People are more likely to reach out when they're unhappy.
Future Feedback: They might be planning to give feedback later, but haven't gotten around to it yet.
Addressing the Sign-Up Dissonance:
Different Needs: Users might sign up for different reasons than you anticipate. Explore why users are signing up and tailor your product/communication to better meet their needs.
Unmet Expectations: It's possible the signup process over promised what the product delivers. Re-evaluate your messaging and signup flow to ensure it accurately reflects what users will experience.
Here are some additional things you can try:
Analyze User Behavior: Look at user data to see where drop-off points are and where users might be encountering issues.
Run User Interviews: Schedule short interviews with a small group of users to get a deeper understanding of their experience.
NPS Surveys: Implement a Net Promoter Score (NPS) survey to gauge user sentiment. It's a simple, one-question survey that asks users how likely they are to recommend your product to others.
Positive Reinforcement: Highlight positive user feedback you do receive on your website or social media to show others that their input is valued.
Remember, getting user feedback is an ongoing process. Don't get discouraged if it takes time and effort. By making it easy for users to provide feedback and addressing potential roadblocks, you can increase your chances of getting valuable insights to improve your product.
