Using Zapier to support your (no-code) product

I've not really had the opportunity to dive into Zapier and I keep seeing people refer to it. So now I'm kind of looking for excuses to use it and see if it fits in with any of my ideas.

Can you inspire me by sharing how you use Zapier from an indie hacker perspective? Or perhaps link me to any stories that you've found useful?

Thanks!

Rosie, if you have specific questions about your needs, let me know and I'm happy to help answer them. I know Zapier's platform pretty well.

This requires a blog post here! ;-)

Zapier voted our company the best appointment scheduling app of 2019, which provided a huge amount of traffic to the site. It has also provided a meaningful starting point for co-marketing opportunities. Our company has written a number of zapier related articles as a means of supporting our customers with expanded features and backlinking to our partners (they do the same for us). I mention this because from a growth hacking perspective, this "bonus impact" is easily as valuable as the actual solutions that it delivers to our customers.

We use Zapier to automatically fill out our sales CRM (HubSpot Deals) when someone submits a 'Request Demo' form (via Calendly widget).

The Zap creates a new HubSpot deal, injects additional information of the company and person (revenue number, company size, etc) via Clearbit, and we send Slack notifications so that our team can keep solidifying how prospects and customers look and sound.

This 1 Zap flow saves us 15-20 minutes every single time of what would otherwise be manual, tedious labor.

Hey @rosiesherry 👋 this is an old thread...wanted to circle back around and see if you had indeed found the opportunity to dive into Zapier?

No, I haven't. Not enough time in the day!

I use zapier to hook up my service inquiry intake form from typeform to invoice ninja, slack, and trello. For the invoicing, it pre-populates a quotation and I complete the balance with custom commentary. For slack, it notifies me a lead has come in during a hectic, multi-tasking day. For trello, I have a card created with all the client particulars in a "warm leads" list which I move along manually based on progress of conversation.

I am testing it now to send out a transaction email through postmark when I move a trello card from one list to another. I.E. "deliverable awaiting client approval" to "approved" which would send out a thank you note and request to fill out a short satisfaction survey.

There are an unlimited number of sophisticated ways to use it, I am constantly struggling to refine, improve, innovate with it. But the process is fun.

We use Zapier for like a million things at doopoll. Couple of examples:

Add new prospects from Prospect.io to a Lemlist campaign
Automate follow up emails to NPS survey responses segmenting by score
Create renewal invoices for enterprise customers

    Do you know about Makerpad?

I haven't used Zapier for any complex workflows, but there's this particular workflow I've set up that I feel saves a lot of time for me.

Whenever someone subscribes to my list at xebel.co (MailChimp), I want to send them a personalised email to say 'thank you', and to ask them a question. I don't ask for people's name when they sign up for the mailing list, which means I can't address them by name if I use MailChimp's automation—the most obvious sign that the email is automated.

Whenever someone subscribes, Zapier will add an entry for that subscriber in an Airtable base. It looks like this. The Name field is blank, and Welcome Email option isn't set.

I then manually update the Name, if I can figure it out from the email address (in this case, 'Jane'), and I update the Welcome Email option to 'To Send'. Here's a screenshot of the updated record.

Zapier will pick up that record, and using Gmail's integration, automatically sends an email from my personal email to the new subscriber. It also updates the Welcome Email value to 'Sent'.

That workflow means sending a personal email to a new subscriber is just a matter of setting the person's Name + the Welcome Email field.

    P.S. You and @BryceV should talk 😁
