HI all,
So for quite a while now, I've been wanting to build a HR system. There's something about the idea that keeps bringing me back to the project. The issue I have is, for such a potentially large project, I lack the skills for sales as well as front end development (I can code front end, but I'm awful at styling :-))
So, I'm looking for a person (or people) who would also like a part in this. Specifically a front end developer but it would be awesome to have a small motivated team working on it.
If you're interested then please drop a message :-)
I'd be interested in learning more. One of my first business contacts created a CMS system from scratch, bootstrapped it and marketed it very well over the years to now become a reference in the small online business community. Ever since, I've been interested in doing something similar so your additional comment below that it's a HR system targeted at small teams and companies definitely interests me.
My own background is quite broad in non-technical aspects. My main day job is as functional/business analyst in development projects. However, besides these analysis projects, I also co-lead our design for almost a year, ran point on half of our design projects at the time, did pitches, facilitated workshops, did user research, created wireframes and prototypes, ... and I do project management as well as agile coaching on almost all projects. As for front-end, my skills are limited to some basic html/CSS coding but I do know a lot about setting up design systems and code to scale so I could support a front-end dev there. On the side, I also had a wedding planning/styling business for a couple of years (bit of a curveball) and then a business coaching/consulting business for another year to help small entrepreneurs automate and simplify their workflows which I put on hold when I started the team lead role. If you're interested, feel free to send me an email or message me back.
Hi,
Thanks for responding
I've sent you an email so that we could discuss further :-)
There is definitely room in that market for innovation... How is your HR system product different than others - what does it do first/most importantly?
The first iteration would be leave management. There’s a lot of small teams out there who still do this manually or via a teams/slack channel. Initially, this would be the core of the system. Focusing on small development teams and start ups.
There is definitely value in efficiency for a startup- - if its easy, lower barrier to entry than the common alternatives (spreadsheets) ... its interesting (to me), but not sure if its compelling on its own.
I built a "pure" HR system for an agency. Significant more detail that I can't go into in this channel, but suffice to say I've solved some important problems for this space. Also, I'm acutely aware of some pitfalls.
Bottom line - this is a tough entry point.
Are you actively looking to build? What do you believe you need? (other than front end styling)
Feel free to hmu if you want to chat this over in a better forum;

Hi,
The idea behind starting with Leave Management is that it's a feature that brings an immediate benefit to a company whilst keeping the first feature in a reasonable scope. The end goal would be to have a fully-fledged system offering performance reviews, interview tracking etc. This is the end goal for me.
I'm aware that this is a tough entry point but I'm also aware that a lot of companies use very sub-standard systems for things like this, it would be boring if it was easy!! :-)
Am I actively looking to build? Yes. I've been coming back to this idea on and off for two years and something has always held me back. Usually, it's because I've built up such a scope that I know I wouldn't ever be able to achieve it. For HTML and CSS I can bootstrap, I'm not overly concerned about this. What I really want is somebody/people that are invested in the idea and bring things to the table. People to bounce ideas off, help with the planning but also how to market and sell as well.
I (like a lot of people) work 40 hours a week + 3 hours a day travel time, It's hard to keep the motivation for a long term project when you have other commitments as well. More than anything, I want a partner(s) who wants to build this as much as I do :-)
